About me

Hi, I’m James.

One of my favorite things to do is sit on a busy intersection or at an airport and people watch. There’s a unique joy in observing the tapestry of life that unfolds in crowded places. Each person carries their own story - a blend of emotions, expressions, and gestures. In the hustle and bustle, it’s a beautiful dance of individual journeys intersecting, creating a vibrant scene pulsing with life and energy.

This fascination drove me to pick up a camera and try to capture just some of those moments…the moments that are here and gone in seconds, completely overlooked and forgotten.

Street photography opened my eyes to the beauty of candid moments, where the everyday unfolds in spontaneous brilliance. I quickly recognized a common thread in my work: the profound connections between people. This realization sparked a transition towards family lifestyle photography. I began to apply my street-forged documentary style to intimate family settings, where the genuine interactions of loved ones come to life.

In this space, I strive to highlight the unscripted moments—the small, in-between moments that form the tapestry of family life, creating memories that deserve to be captured and cherished forever.

The joy of witnessing these interactions fuels my passion, allowing me to provide families with a treasure trove of visual memories, each photograph telling a story of love, connection, and the beauty of simply being together.

More about me

A dad, a husband, musician (my day job), and campy horror movie! I grew up in the midwestern U.S., and although now live in beautiful Hawaii, I have spend a lot of time making photos in other countries across Asia.

I find immense joy in capturing the exceptional yet ordinary moments in life. I see these snapshots for what they are: the little threads that weave humanity’s story together.

I strive to see family photography through that type of lens - Bottom line: I just want to photograph people being people.
